Israel—My Real Home
As a Jew David has always been aware that Israel is his real home. He lived in the town of Szombathely in Western Hungary with his mother and brothers. David hasn’t experienced any anti-Semitism directly, but he does see the danger of the far right party rising in Hungary. David is looking forward to serving in the IDF but thinks that learning Hebrew might be quite a challenge!
Shortly after his departure David’s Mum wrote to our Hungary representatives. Here is an extract from her letter:
“Please let me tell you a big thank you for your help. We haven’t met; you don’t know me or my family but you gave my son David some help to go to Israel. It is the first time in my life when somebody helped me selflessly. Sorry if my English is bad—I learned it by myself! … As you know I’m a mother of 5 sons—the oldest, Daniel, is living in England and now David has left for Israel. I have 3 other sons at home aged 15, 21 and 23 … I thank you a lot for your help—thanks again, many times.
